Ohio native Ambrose Bierce became one
of the most famous literary stars of his day, as well as a renowned
investigative journalist. Still, people raised an eyebrow in 1913
when the 71-year-old announced he was off to find Pancho Villa and
join his army as a witness to the Mexican Revolution. Ambrose
disappeared on his adventure, leaving behind different versions of
the legend of what might have happened to him.
