In 1907, William Legg, owner of a meat market in the Shelby County seat of Sidney, was shot to death by two robbers who took his money and fled. Two railroad tramps arrested the next day pointed the finger at each other for the crime. One man was executed, the other not, in an outcome that had people debating fairness.
